English Dub Review: Garo: The Vanishing Line “Utopia”
The big “ute”.
Overview (Spoilers Below)
This week we’re in the Matrix. Yep, both Sophie and Sword are in an unconscious dream state where we learn that Sophie’s brother was being duped for a loftier purpose while he’s been running around his own digital utopia that he calls “El Dorado” that was created by Cygnusram-Tech’s Horror King. In the digital world he’s the king, but in the real world, the Horror King is consuming people left and right for his own survival.
Lizzy and Sword escape a bunch of robots and while the latter eventually wakes up, but Sophie’s getting ready to kill her brother in the digital world of El Dorado.
Our Take
I’m a big Matt Shipman fan and I love the job he does as “Martin” in Garo, but boy did THIS series become derivative and in a hurry. Powerful rings? Digital worlds where people don’t care about the difference? There’s a lot here that has been done countless times which means the only thing I’m really looking for is to the action sequences, even though I was looking forward to the plot getting better. I do like the growth in Sophie’s character in that she was sort of the atypical “helpless teenager”, and now she’s trying to kill her brother, so a decent 180 in that department, but with few action sequences and a plot that just became shit, we gotta hope for the best.
Score
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
