APAC: The Simpsons season 29 is finally coming to Aussie free-to-air
Let me start by saying: I called it.
When Australia’s Channel Seven was first announced as the new home of The Simpsons (following a licensing breakdown with Channel Ten), I was sure the network would take advantage of having the syndication rights to three of Fox’s most iconic animated sitcoms: Family Guy, American Dad!, and of course, everyone’s favorite yellow Springfieldians.
In an unsurprising move, Seven’s sister channel 7Mate have announced a new Wednesday night lineup (the aptly named Ani-Mate) featuring the Fox shows prominently. It seems likely that 7Mate will become the primary destination for animation fans when Ani-Mate launches on February 28th, and I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords.
Perhaps renewed Aussie viewership will help the Simpsons team attract more famous faces from Down Under as guest stars. In a recent interview, showrunner Al Jean revealed that the Hemsworth brothers and Hugh Jackman had all turned down potential roles; I can only imagine how many Thor or Wolverine parodies never saw the light of day.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
