Review: Tender Touches “Bamboo Floors” ; “Bamboo Floors: Operetta”

Sing for the moment.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

After the events of the last episode, Steve is rushed to the hospital by Curtis and Charlene where they are greeted by the doctor. Steve is admitted, and as Steve goes in for surgery, Curtis has to take off and show a house to a young couple. While he’s out, we get a little bit of backstory on Steve and Curtis’ relationship by way of a hallucination that Curtis takes part in as a result of some pink gas. Meanwhile, Charlene and the doctor are planning something that might be evil but it sounded so ridiculous who knows?

Our Take

On one hand, the real version of this show is pretty hilarious. On the other hand, the “Operetta” is side-splittingly hilarious. Like, the producers don’t even bother getting the voice of “Charlene” to sing any of her lines, and clearly, it’s a more difficult task for everyone to sing than it is to just talk their lines because the mouth animations are all over the place and half of the people that are singing aren’t even trying. PUT SOME EFFORT INTO IT PEOPLE! IT’S ADULT FUCKIN’ SWIM!

All of the moving parts make for a tear-inducing episode. We have talking body parts, background gags that are just happening all over the place.  Lauren Payne’s work on this show is proof that Adult Swim shows should hire more female producers for animated series because she’s just as random as Christy Karacas in her delivery.

For all its silliness, Tender Touches is a solid show. It could be the pink gas that’s inducing me, but whatever it is, it tastes good like barbecue.
