Comics Review: Simpsons Comics #241
Superhero movie remakes come to Springfield!
Overview (Spoilers Below)
Shenanigans ensue in this issue of The Simpsons comic series, with Krusty the Clown directing a remake of Radioactive Man with an all-female cast! Through a tangled web of gaggery and shenanigans, Bart becomes Krusty’s production assistant and eventual secret director of the movie, while Patty and Selma become the twin acting duo playing Radioactive Woman. The rest of the comic details the trials and tribulations of the production, with plenty of laughs and funny moments along the way.
Our Take:
There’s a surprising amount of density in this comic, which is nice in that this story is just one gag thrown at you after another. The jokes are hit and miss in a lot of areas, but the story functions well as a whole, being a parody of modern comic book movies and the nebulous trends Hollywood has been following. Its a story that ultimately doesn’t go anywhere too important, but you have a bit of fun along the way seeing Krusty occupy the role of eccentric Hollywood executive while this movie production becomes more and more ridiculous. And, as always, the simple art style of The Simpsons proves to be a suitable avenue for the dialogue-driven, screwball humor this comic provides.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
