Review: The Amazing World Of Gumball “The Line”

Is “The Force” strong with this episode?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

The Watersons Camp is in line for the first screening of the latest “Stellar Odyssey” sequel which is so blatantly Star Wars in this show’s universe with all the unsubtle jokes & references it makes without actually saying Star Wars. After being dragged all the way back in line while camping at the sidewalk, Gumball develops a devious plan and takes ruthless measures in making the line shorter for his family by making up fake spoilers in a series of comedic setpieces sprinkled with more in-jokes & references just for added measure.

When the Watersons finally think they’re going next, Gumball gets a text notification from the theatre app saying that the movie screening is in a theatre on the other side of town in which everyone races to get to first leading to another series comedic setpieces & references to Star Wars. The episode ends with the Egg Nerd Twins Colin and Felix getting the last laugh in their race to see the film.

Our Take

Clearly, the writers of this episode had a lot of fun trying to cram as many in-jokes & references as possible while the ending showed how devious the Egg Twins can get if you try to underestimate them. The visual jokes & references are where this episode really shines but I feel this would only cater to Star Wars fans.
