Review: Squidbillies “Jacksonville Jackass”
I didn’t review this. The guy who reviewed this had his pants on.
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
The Cuylers visit Sharif in the middle of the night all decked out in football paraphernalia to invite him on a trip to Florida for a Bulldogs versus Gators game…specifically to get him to be their designated driver, AND with his big untouched RV. Sharif, desperate for acceptance, agrees, but at the cost of having a microwaved turd and cross-generational make outs. Though when they arrive, he’s pressured into his first beer. And second. And third. Until he’s off his ass stripping and shooting and punching through the parking lot. Rusty’s pretty concerned while Early, initially having fun with this new side to Sharif, now becomes increasingly jealous of his showboating. Things escalate as they enter the arena and end up watching him drink from trash cans, climb fences and fall for a comical amount of time down many flights of stairs before being dragged out by security. As the two exit, Early expresses regret over being out-drunk and overlooked in what should have been his finest hour of disorderly conduct. They head over to the local jail to bail out Sharif, but end up leaving him there because Early is, by his own description, “jealous and petty”. Well, at least it’s nice to know he’s aware of it.
OUR TAKE
So yeah, turns out this one surprisingly has a decent amount of character work in it, just like the last two. Sharif/Sheriff has consistently, since Season ONE, been one who is drawn to Early’s hijinks due to his own distaste in his more mundane life defined by portraying authority, and feels almost drawn to him as a “cool kid” despite being a dead-ender who destroys things around him without regard. So, all it takes to get him to drive Early and his family to another state is simply to appeal to his desire to live a little. Even more so when peer pressuring him into his (supposedly) first beer, which leads him to fall down the alcoholic rabbit to making him a complete fool of himself in public. Or at least more than usual. Meanwhile, Early’s disappointment at not being the star of his own trainwreck is perfectly in line for him as he doesn’t want to be the center of attention, and manipulates as he pleases to get there. It’s just this time he accidentally created a monster that out-jackass’d him.
…holy crap, is Squidbillies doing more interesting stuff with its characters than Family Guy?
