English Dub Review: Lastman “Watch Out When It Starts Flickering”

Flickering Moth.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Richard visits the fat man so that he can get into the premier boxing league and has to do so in a battle with two other guys for one of two open spots on the league roster. After a vicious battle that looked right out of Hellraiser, Richard befriends a partner named Duke and the viewing public just lost a bunch of money in the process.

Meanwhile, Siri gets really sick so Howard has to go to the home of Laura and Martin where he confronts a mutated Laura who nearly kills them both. Howard gets out alive…alone. But, now the police agents may have an integral clue as to who has been killing a bunch of the city’s important denizens who leave no traces of being mutated, just having their hearts removed.

Our Take

There’s a lot going on right now and you can tell the episode recaps at the beginning are trying their best to remind you of the important plot points from prior episodes, sometimes completely skipping episodes in the process, but some of the plot is starting to get a bit bloated in terms of the common goals of each of the characters and this is all the while we’re adding more characters into the mix. The fight scenes, the surefire strength of the series, were solid this time around but very brief, but the monster designs are really sick and the consequences of some of these turns are starting to become more apparent as was the case with Martin. Richard’s battle scene was well thought out, but I would’ve liked to have seen it be a bit more compelling and drawn out more but altogether I was still very much entertained.
