English Dub Review: Seven Mortal Sins “Beach of Lust”
Will the sin of Lust pull you in to watch more Seven Mortal Sins?
When I first started watching Seven Mortal Sins I was immediately flabbergasted by the shows pathetic writing, voice acting and its attempts at sexualizing the characters. It is a fact that everyone has their own sexual preferences but for me, the demon girls showing off their pentagram censored boobs and were about as arousing as if you laid cold turkey in their place. It’s an issue of an overabundance of sexualisation without much support to really build off from for me. Now, of course, Seven Mortal Sins is not the sort of anime that would develop a deep emotional connection between Lucifer and Asmodeous (Lust) for the benefit of making the relationship of the two more sexually pleasing.
The show knows what it wants to be and especially in episode 3 “Beach of Lust” it goes all out on the sexual fan service. Nipple sucking, plant tentacle groping and sensual pole dancing are all included in the episode. It actually leaves me perplexed, mostly because one of the opening production stingers is for Universal Studios and, while not for prudish reasons, it’s hard to imagine Seven Mortal Sins fits within their brand so why would they take on this project? …Boobs?
Following from the last episode, Lucifer takes Maria and Envy to Miami as that is where Lust is. They find her with virgin powers basically as the show finally explains what Lucifer did in the pilot episode. Fundamentally Lucifer put her own blood of a pure angel into Maria before Lucifer herself became a corrupted demon so now this gives Maria the power to locate the Seven Mortal Sins. For some reason. But that’s not the important part of this episode.
Actually, there is no important part to the episode as the episode is basically on repeat for the first two-thirds. Lucifer finds Lust, Lucifer makes a comment about taking down Lust, Envy gets jealous and hops into attack Lust, gets trounced by Lust in the process and then Lucifer leaves. Besides the location it takes place in, this series of scenes repeats twice and it is just hilariously irritating. Last episode I wanted to cut Envy’s voice actress a break as she was bringing a lot of emotion to the role. But I can’t in honest opinion compliment her work when she is written and directed as such an irritating character.
But Envy is not important for the time being, it’s all about Lust today and now that she has a whole episode to herself to personify the sin, I do like the concept of her. A being that feeds off the lust of man and uses that to fuel her own sense of nobility towards sex. She does feel like she plays a crucial role in stopping the “sin” of sex which is oddly more background into her motivation then I was expecting. However, all that is really undermined by the episodes attempt at a pro-sex moral.
To say my quick opinion, as long as it’s between adults who can consent I don’t care what anyone wishes to do in private. Seven Mortal Sins tries to say the same advice to its audience. I like the idea of the moral but it definitely feels disingenuous when we just got finished with the scene with Lucifer screaming in ecstasy as Lust sexually tortures her. Even the term sexually tortures her, in the context of the series, was interesting on how they went about it but it doesn’t make up for all the sexual perversion the show was gleefully showing off. This includes a scene of Lust molesting Maria. Maybe that is taking the show more literally than it intends but if it is saying sex isn’t a sin then maybe it needed a better way to show that.
In the end, I could only recommend this if you had access to the uncensored version of Seven Mortal Sins. Makes for better spank material than it does a cohesive story. The bright side is the anime is getting to be so dumb and inept I’m more enjoying making fun of it. So I can recommend it as such. If you’re in the mood to laugh at a dumb show with big boobs then Seven Mortal Sins would be your anime.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
