Review: Son of Zorn “A Tale of Two Zorns”

Better than two trees.

Spoilers Below

Zorn sends his alter-ego “Meka-Zorn” to cover for him at work so that he can go with Al to get a new game. Craig shows up and his ongoing beef with Zorn causes Zorn to ditch in distress.

Meanwhile, Edie and Linda team up to destroy Meka-Zorn which is odd because he might actually be more socially acceptable than the real Zorn. That said, Edie’s been complaining a lot about Zorn which annoys her friends so that’s why she’s bonding with Zorn’s boss. The two take turns beating the shit out of the robot but it doesn’t take long before Linda becomes sexually attracted to the prospect of a guy that doesn’t talk shit.

The real Zorn heads back to the office and is on the look out for his mechanized doppelganger JUST as Edie activates the irreversible self-destruct sequence. After a rousing conversation with Todd, Zorn heads to Edie’s house for a showdown with Meka-Zorn to the death. Good thing Craig and Al were there because they were the ones that save the day by short-circuiting the bot and sparing Zorn.

Our Take

Little things bother me all the time, and this episode kinda had a few of those moments. Craig pretending to play video games wasn’t very convincing, and why do we have to have brand names altered in this day and age? In any event, two Zorns make for funny ideas, especially when Linda nearly took home Meka-Zorn. That said, I think we missed a real opportunity with everyone standing on line for a video game. Granted, Cartman has the trophy in terms of long waits for video games, but I think we could’ve seen better joke writing on how silly line-waiters for games used to be. Nowadays, I’m not even sure the premise is pertinent because we have Amazon and next day delivery, so if you wanna game bad enough you can still go on with your life.

BUT, will the subplot between Todd and Zorn be ongoing? I hope so. Between this show and Dream Corp, LLC, Mark Proksch (Todd) is showcasing a novel range in his acting by playing both and opposite to the guy that’s quite a bit off.

Overall, Son of Zorn needs to spice shit up a bit this season if it wants to top a competitive freshman season.
