English Dub Review: Lord of Mysteries “Hero”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Klein’s next case involves a Beyonder who can instigate chaos in others.

OUR TAKE

Well, it was so nice of Crunchyroll to finally let people watch this episode after I checked like twelve times throughout the day, only for it to actually be available the next morning! Ah well, at least I got to enjoy a Friday off. Oh, and for some reason they don’t have the captions back up for the many things in this series that need translation, which were already a bit of an annoyance with how many there were, but without them it’s even more confusing because people are just throwing more terms left and right with little to no context. In this case, we have yet another dangerous sect of Beyonders to worry about (what is this, three now?), this time called the Demoness Sect, whose upper ranks are all women. Also, they apparently have the means to access “Sequence Seven”, which was a surprise to me because it seemed like Sequence NINE was like the bare minimum to become a beyonder, so I assumed that meant that greater powers would go up from there, but this seems to imply that having LOWER number sequences is what people are trying to achieve. Which I can at least understand as a concept, but this is still all feeling way too complicated, which I doubt is going to ease up any time soon.

Anyway, this episode is another episode with Klein getting into a very intense search for a culprit who is connected to some terrible organization as I said. What’s significant about this one though, besides the fact that we get a nice little montage about how Klein has settled in with this current life, is how he starts to form a dynamic with another Nighthawk colleague, Leonard Mitchell, who is a bit more cocky and self-assured compared to Klein who is more reserved and calculating. And hey, whatever helps make Klein feel more distinguishable by having a foil is fine by me. Slowly but surely I feel like I’m getting the hang of these characters and the world around them…and then something else comes in and makes me think I don’t know anything. Also worth pointing out that apparently the story of this episode is the only one in this first arc that isn’t really connected to the overall plot, so maybe next week we’ll be getting into something that makes me feel more caught up instead of totally lost. And maybe they’ll have the episode up on time.

Error happened.
