Shorts Review: RWBY Chibi Episode 9

This episode was 3 mins and 39 seconds long and is surprisingly short due to being only two skits this time.

“Weiss Studying“

Weiss is working on school work and is un-phased when Ruby barges in abruptly screaming “I’m bored! entertain me.” Of course Weiss says she can’t because of her studying obligations.

Then Ruby asks if Weiss wants to hang out after studying in which Weiss says responds with the words “I’ll be at this all night.” and Ruby leaves to her bed.

Ruby then crawls on her back and grabs a book offering to “study together” but Weiss says she “just needs to focus.”

Ruby then keeps crawling on her back in sadness and disappointment.

But then she stands back up sneaking next to Weiss.

And out of nowhere this happens. ..

She jumps on the table and starts flopping around like a dying fish out of water while screaming “You made me do this!!” and Weiss looks in shock.

“Ren Plays Tag“

Jaune, Nora and Phyrra are playing a game a tag and Nora says to Ren “Your it!” while Ren was simply reading a book. (I’ll admit, this was cute.)

For some weird reason Ren Takes this like some spiritual “chosen one” and puts on a headband cutting to a comical zen-like montage while balancing himself on random places.

He even blows air on the ground for push-ups like that scene in “Kung Pow:Enter the fist”.)

And The montage comically ends with him floating up using a fan while meditating.

Then for some “Final Test” Ren catches peppermint candies with chopsticks being thrown by Ruby and she says to him. “Your Ready.”

Afterwards she eats a peppermint herself and makes this random goofy face.

Wtf ruby, Does she get high off peppermints or something?

Ren goes to try and Tag Nora only to be countered with Nora Bitch-slapping him and saying “Tag-tag! and she walks away as Ren falls unconscious.

Ren is one of those straight-laced, laconic characters that when he says or does something unpredictable, it’s comedy gold. Sort of like Tien from DBZ Abridged or Butters from South Park.

Well, despite the fact this episode was a lot shorter, be it there were two scenes, Ruby trying to get Weiss’ attention was freaking adorable and Ren taking tag incredibly serious was equally funny.

From my perspective, there was no worst sketch as they both had the proper build-up to deliver a good laugh and that’s all that matters in a comedy.
