Review: Steven Universe “Steven Floats”

Steven and the Gems have finally returned to Beach City. When Steven runs around the house hugging everything he missed, he finds that all of the food in the fridge has gone bad. Starving, Steven goes to the donut shop. Unfortunately, they just closed for the day. But he is promised the first fresh donut in the morning.

Back on his little stretch of beach, Steven jumps for joy. Only now he can jump higher and float back down to earth. Happy that he has a new power, Steven jumps extra high. It isn’t until he is too high that he realizes that he floats really slowly. He manages to get Amethyst’s attention but she isn’t much help. Garnet and Pearl come out but they can’t help him either. Instead, the Gems entertain him until he figures out that his powers are controlled by his emotions. When he’s happy, he floats slowly. When he’s mad, he falls faster. Thankfully, Steven manages to get back on the ground just as the donut shop opens. Too bad the donut deliciousness makes him jump for joy again, pinning him to the ceiling.

So Steven finally has a new power. While I’m not sure what he’ll be able to do with it, I am looking forward to seeing him learn to use it. I’d like to see Lapis teach Steven how to use his power. Granted, she flies and he floats but maybe there are enough similarities that they can work together. Lapis needs to be more of a team player anyway.
