Review: Steven Universe – “Hit The Diamond”

Shine bright like a diamond.

The Roaming Eye has crashed into the ground near the barn, thanks to Lapis. Out of the Eye jumps five different Ruby gems in search of the gem in charge of the failed Earth mission. Peridot assumes this is her since she insulted Yellow Diamond. In order to protect Peridot, Garnet splits back into Ruby and Sapphire. This Ruby tries to distract the other Rubys but fails miserably. Steven comes out to help. Unfortunately, all he can come up with is a baseball game against the Rubys.

For the most part, the baseball game is fairly typical. However, the Ruby and Sapphire from Garnet keep flirting with each other and messing up their turns. Eventually, the two get their act together so Steven’s team can win the game. But this doesn’t appease the Rubys. They ask for the location of Jasper. It turns out that they were never looking for Peridot. They were looking for Jasper. Steven tells the Rubys that Jasper is on Neptune and they leave in their Roaming Eye.

I have to admit, this was a pretty funny episode. From the extremely different attitudes of the various Rubys to the incessant flirting of the Garnet Ruby and Sapphire, there was always something going on to keep the action going. I know this mini-series is over but I’d really like to know what happens with Peridot and Lapis. I’d like to see their friendship blossom. Maybe that will happen next season.
