Review: Mike Tyson Mysteries “Save Me!”

I wish this the season finale, it would have ended the season on such a high and mighty point.

For the second week in a row, we have been treated to a fantastic episode. Taking on the religion of Christianity, in only the way Mike Tyson can, we are treated to a particularly sacrilegious slice of comedy. Starting off with an image of a house burning to the ground of an elderly couple, the audience thinks “Oh no! Hopefully Tyson’s crew will figure out who was the arsonist in this week’s mystery.” Ironically, and to our surprise, Tyson was the culprit. But don’t worry, he only burnt the entire lives of a poor old couple to save them from the demon haunting their residence. Yep, to celebrate their 100th mystery (or so we’re told), they celebrate in the only reasonable fashion possible- by going for Americanized Mexican food.

Yung Hee proposes she say grace to bless the meal, to everyone’s’ surprise. Mike points out that she should be getting into drugs and sex like a normal teenager, not organized religion. Yung took up the local youth group meetings in order to meet people her age.

She invites a boy over, and he gets possessed by a demon. Mike’s strategy of burning the mutha’ down is the ultimate resolution to ridding the mansion of the demon. This episode worked because it was simple, followed a path that wasn’t hard to follow, and had a clear beginning, middle, and ending. Sometimes it’s best not to stray too far from the typical sitcom formula. That’s not to say that an episode can’t be great, if it is different. It can be great and different, but the elements that are different must be unique and original without trying too hard.

The episode started off with a strong beginning, continued strong, and tied everything together on a strong ending. Simple, had a central theme, and made me laugh. It’s all I ask for.
