Review: The Simpsons “Orange Is The New Yellow”

How did The Simpsons fair in its season finale?

Spoilers Below

When one of the local parents finds out that Bart is unsupervised at the playground, the police are dispatched to the Simpson house. Marge is arrested and sent to prison for 90 days. While she is gone, Homer is left to care for the kids. Good guy Flanders gets the entire neighborhood to pitch in to help the hopeless man. But that isn’t enough to keep Homer from taking the kids to the bar.

Once Marge takes care of the top dogs in prison, she realizes that she is getting quite a vacation in jail. She gets to tend roses, read books, and actually exercise. So when Homer hires the best attorney in Springfield to get her out, Marge grabs a guard’s gun and gets herself more jail time. Eventually, Marge starts missing her family. She inadvertently starts a prison break during a tornado, Homer rushes in dressed as a guard to break her out. The tornado, on the other hand, tosses all of the unsupervised neighborhood kids into a nearby tree. At least everyone gets home safely.

I feel like we’ve seen this episode done by The Simpsons, themselves, multiple times. Something happens to Marge and she is forced to leave the kids with Homer, who is, obviously, ill equipped to raise his own children. It was interesting to see Marge flourish behind bars, this was not a new premise and, therefore, rather boring. I think The Simpsons really has run out of ideas.
