‘Mr. Pickles’ and ‘Mike Tyson Mysteries’ both had back-door pilots in the last month; Here’s the pitch for Adult Swim to order them to series
We plead with the powers that be.
I mean, we’ve had like 30 spin-offs or derivations of Children’s Hospital, why not give a little more love to the newer animated comedies on Adult Swim? Recently, both Mike Tyson Mysteries and Mr. Pickles aired episodes that featured fantastic ideas of spin-offs and we’ve got good reasons to see these ideas become full-fledged series.
Mike Tyson Mysteries
Snoop Dogg’s “Unsolved Situations”
On an episode of Mike Tyson Mysteries entitled “Unsolved Situations” we got to see a mystery-esque solving team with Snoop Dogg at the helm and with sidekicks including a mountain lion and Ross Matthews. Like Mike, Snoop would get his “Unsolved Situations” via pigeons (though non-talking) and would use a few more vehicle types at his disposal (most notably a helicopter) to help solve these situations.
The episode was graded low, but I do think a spin-off of Mike Tyson Mysteries with Snoop Dogg at the helm would be excellent. For starters, I think Snoop is a better voice actor than Mike, and the possibility of a mountain lion tearing people to shreds looking for answers sounds so appealing to me. Also, Snoop can unlock a treasure trove of pot jokes that should fit well with the Adult Swim audience.
Mr. Pickles
“Astronaut Dolphin Detective”
On a recent episode of Mr. Pickles , entitled “A.D.D.”, we got a full on episode of the show within a show, Astronaut Dolphin Detective and it was pretty ridiculous. In a space adventure that would even make the producers of Rick and Morty blush, we get a dolphin working for a detective agency that is a heavy drug user, highly promiscuous, and is able clear a room of bad guys with the best of ‘em…all attributes that Mr. Pickles currently employs. The major difference being, the Dolphin gets a full cast of characters to work with, while Mr. Pickles usually kills bad guys in secret.
The episode even employed a fantastic ‘B’ plot featuring the Chief arguing with his deputy about a lasagna pan and keep lids on snacks. The space adventure itself featured fantastic character designs of the various aliens i.e. an evil space shrimp that can control a chainsaw spaceship heading to the sun with his mind, that are quite good and very creative. As a matter of fact, the aesthetic and designs of the characters reminded me a bit of AAAH! Real Monsters but obviously geared more towards a TV-MA audience.
If Lazzo, I’m ordering pilots for both, but maybe he already got them? What do you guys think? Are there other Adult Swim shows you would like to see spin-offs for?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
