Review: Bordertown – “Drug Lord”
Spoilers Below
The day has finally come where we start to learn about the mysterious drug kingpin, Pablo Barracuda. Craving the materialistic aspects of life, Bud turned his jealousy of Ernesto’s success and wealth into a desire to outperform him. He intended on completing this task by procuring a second job working as a day laborer. While standing outside his local commercialized home improvement center, he was swiftly abducted by Pablo’s henchmen and brought to a large complex via an up-armored helicopter. After some rambling, Bud is given a wad of cash for what Pablo expects to later be redeemed as an uncontested means to allow drugs across the border.
From the beginning of the episode, we find out Gert (“the fallen angel too big to fly”) is obsessed with making Pablo her sugar daddy. After she is rejected by him, she loses her cool and starts attacking him. In turn, she is hurled across an ocean by means of a henchman’s arm. Yes, you read that correctly. She was literally thrown across a very large body of water. What do you expect when you take your family to dinner at a drug lord’s complex?
Pablo was able to make a few escapes from certain death through means of a decoy. The first time was funny, but it was predictable at the end.
I found it extremely awkward at one point in the episode when one of the party-goers at Bud’s house called the storyline out on how in congruent it was. He and I both have no idea why anyone would be watching the news at a party. But, it was “necessary” to further the story, I suppose.
SCIRE
I have yet to see much from this show that makes it stand out in a positive way.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
