Review: Bob’s Burgers – “Stand By Gene”

Aliens?

Spoilers Below

Since the restaurant is slow, Bob lets the kids have the day off. They rush off to gather money off the pier so they can ride one of the inverted rides. While searching, Gene overhears some teenagers talking about a two-butted goat. Excited, he tells his sisters they have to go see it. The girls don’t believe it exists and ignore Gene. Once they get enough money, they buy some candy and head toward their ride. They find the other kids also in line for the inverted ride. Gene tells them about the two-butted goat and everyone decides they need to see it. Newly purchased map in hand, the kids decide to take a shortcut to the farm. Of course, the shortcut leads them through all sorts of dangerous situations. But Gene saves the day and gets them through. Only three kids back out during the trip. When the rest of them reach the farm, they find the two-butted goat does exist. Thanks to a bet she made with Gene, Louise now has to clean the entire restaurant by herself. But it was worth it.

Well, maybe. While the kids were gone, Bob and Linda had a bit of a napkin war. They started off playing HORSE with the napkins and a trash can but moved onto napkin darts (or Narts, as Bob calls it). They wet the napkins and throw them at various objects to get them to stick. Linda has beat Bob at every single game so he talks his regular customers into playing against her too. In the end, Linda wins and Bob realizes what a douche he’s been. And they wrecked the restaurant. I’m sure Louise will be happy.

While this was a fun episode, it wasn’t one my favorites. The writers did show that, once Gene has an idea in his head, he will go to any lengths to see it to fruition. He didn’t care whether or not the two-butted goat actually existed, he only cared that they took the journey to see if it did. How would they know the rumor was true unless they checked it out for themselves? Gene may not be the smartest Belcher kid but he is the most adventurous and I love that about him.
