Review: Pickle and Peanut “Wiz Fest / Gym Rats”

“Wiz Fest

The guys head to a renaissance fair and Peanut falls for a girl that he meets there. They didn’t want to cosplay at first, but after meeting this girl Amanda, Peanut joins in. Amanda and the crew (which includes McSweats whom is also trying to win Amanda’s affections) head on out on a quest and return three items. First up, the group shows up to a tee-ball game and steal a tee while McSweats gets the shit kicked out of him by the players long enough for the police to show up. Next, everyone heads to the recycling center where they ascertain a Pie World sign from the trash. Last, but not least, everyone heads to a tavern with Pickle and Peanut going inside do get a skull. Unfortunately, it causes the local patrons to go nuts and a brawl to ensue between them and the cops. At this juncture, Peanut doesn’t care about Amanda’s bull shit, but we come to learn she has magical powers that activate to destroy the cop/goblins. Just as Peanut and Amanda are gonna smooch, someone zaps Amanda into the sky.

Our Take

I thought this episode was going to be all about a festival featuring people wizzing on each other, but I will certainly settle for an almost Lord of the Rings tale that features very well done fantastical elements that I really haven’t seen the show do much of, but with hilarious flavors throughout. I love it when TV shows try new shit, and that’s what this week’s episode of Pickle and Peanut did. Hell, we even got a bit of a future bit featuring Peanut! Who knew head bands are still around years from now?

Gym Rats”

Pickle and Peanut are at the gym, but told by the patrons that they aren’t allowed there until they lift a really heavy weight. Champion Horse shows up and agrees to help, but Peanut wants to use a shortcut. The two end up buying a belt that zaps abs until they look good, but Pickle isn’t sold. As time goes on, Peanut gets his abs, but Pickle finds out that the zapper has a mind of its own and is looking to build an army of zapped soldiers run by Mam Mams. Pickle and Peanut decide to fight back by taking off zappers belonging to the other gym rats and Mam Mams takes off.

Our Take

Who knew that going to the gym sucked? I did. It always sucks, and while the basic premise isn’t wildly original, the outlandish battle at the end eschews the best characteristics of the show like gross body parts and Regular Show-esque technology that has a mind of its own. Also, anytime we get a visit from Mam Mams it’s a good day.
