Review: Bob’s Burgers – “The Cook, The Steve, The Gayle , & Her Lover”

Once again, Louise is in trouble. Guidance counselor, Mr. Frond, takes the shark grabber that Louise has been using to torture her teachers. Angrily, Louise vows revenge.

Meanwhile, Bob and Linda are setting up a dinner party in order to meet Linda’s sister, Gayle’s, new boyfriend. Bob upsets his friend, Teddy, by inviting an interesting new customer, Steve, to the party but not actually inviting Teddy. Steve arrives at the party with his 10-year old kleptomaniac son, who falls madly in love with Tina. When Gayle’s boyfriend shows up, it is none other than Louise’s nemesis, Mr. Frond. Louise insists on breaking up the new couple.

The dinner party fails on so many levels. Bob embarrasses himself by trying to compare archaeologist Steve to Indiana Jones, which Steve hates. Linda forces Mr. Frond to drink too much wine, making him spend the night throwing up in the bathroom. Louise does everything in her power to make Gayle want to break up with Mr. Frond. And Bob makes Steve sick with his cream-based sauce. It was basically a typical dinner party at the Belcher’s.

But, of course, everything figures itself out. Teddy reprimands Steve for not giving Bob a chance to be his friend. Louise fishes the doll that Mr. Frond made for Gayle out of the sewer. And, well, nothing happens to the klepto son. He just keeps stealing things. I guess you can’t fix everyone. At least Gayle will finally be happy.

My favorite part of this episode is when Louise made Tina sing a song in Spanish then “translated” it for her aunt. Tina was singing basic phrases like “My name is Tina” and “Where is the bathroom” but Louise was translating it as “Stay away from guidance counselors.” I know Tina is a fan favorite but I love Louise’s antics. She has some pretty original tricks up her sleeve. I’d hate to get on her bad side. Besides, without Louise, this episode would have been rather boring.
