Review: Adventure Time “Crossover” (S7Ep23)

Very strange episode of Adventure Time tonight. Not that ALL episodes of AdTi aren’t strange in some way.. but this one was absolutely, insanely, bizarrely strange. A lot of Cartoon Network shows are obsessed with the “alternate reality” concept lately. Regular Show had some episodes with that aspect.

Tonight’s new Adventure Time episode “Crossover” begins with Finn and Jake in parkas and snow gear climbing up onto a barren, icy path. Hilarious first line of the episode– Finn says “Wow. Everything sucks here.” Another thing of note is all the people frozen in the ice.

Turns out, Prismo (a character from previous episodes, the Lich one, etc — he’s a Wish Master who is the manifestation of an old man’s dream…?) needs Finn and Jake’s help against, well, Ice Finn. And Lich/Jake. And from here, seriously, unbelievably– things get weirder.

There’s a flash back in time. First, an hour or so, and then Prismo relates the events leading up to the problem at hand. Wish reality. Alternate realities. Multiverses. And at the end, alternate versions of Finn’s family… you should see it all. And try to follow it. Because it’s difficult to follow.

Are we still totally sure this is a kids show? Jake talks about a dirty brown pickle. Some super dark Lich stuff in there.  Really not sure what to think on this one. It’s nuts.
