The Awesomes Canceled After Three Seasons…being shopped
After three seasons on Hulu, the Seth Meyers/Michael Shoemaker-produced The Awesomes has been cancelled by Hulu and is currently being shopping to other distributors.
I have to imagine there were a few contributing factors to the series. For one, Hulu just paid a boat load of money for South Park (which is paying off in spades) so I’m sure the funds for original animated comedy is just tapped at the moment which has me thinking that Metalocalypse doesn’t have a chance.
Also, The Awesomes moved its premiere to a very busy September as opposed to the usual August time-frame, which I’m sure threw people off for a bit especially given that the streaming service put almost no PR or marketing support into the third season.
As for target network pickups? I doubt Crackle would want to have TWO animated comedies about superheroes on its network, and I’ve never heard of a television network pickup a show after cancellation on a streaming service. Would Netflix consider? Or how about SeeSo?? The latter has ties to Universal Television which is an affiliate to NBC where Seth currently calls home.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
