Review: South Park – “Truth and Advertising”

South Park is on a rampage. To be able to watch a show that is not afraid to be current with events and vernacular is beyond refreshing. I appreciate that this episode will be used as a build-up to something big. It’s still slightly awkward to be invested in a South Park story line that doesn’t end within 22 minutes with Kenny dying. However, I hope this season will set a new precedent for future seasons.
“Truth and Advertising” lacks on the normal amount of jokes you’d expect during an episode of South Park. In this case, it’s not such a bad thing. Here’s why:
The plot is thickening. PC Principal has gone missing and is being suspected of abducting Jimmy and Leslie. Back at the News Anchor’s headquarters, we find the 2 missing children safe and in each other’s company. Not knowing who he can trust, Jimmy chooses Leslie over the News Anchors. The consequences of his actions are shown in the final scenes of the episode. A coalition force, consisting of Mr. Garrison, Principal Victoria, and Caitlyn Jenner, go undercover to try to expose PC Principal. He and his PC Fraternity are nowhere to be found.
When I referred to there being a lack of jokes, I didn’t mean there weren’t any. The jokes in the episode were well-placed and didn’t distract from the overall message (unlike an ad). The reoccurring Caitlyn Jenner car bit gets me EVERY time. Even when it’s parked, it’s parked on someone. The infinite circles that ads get people to run in is crazy. To see it happen on South Park, just like it does in real life, is spectacular. This season has me belly-laughing, because it’s so true. Has South Park become real life, or has real life become South Park?
I realize this isn’t my normal layout with a run-through of the entire episode beginning to end. That’s because you need to see this season to fully comprehend the little nuances and details in this particular episode. You will not live vicariously through my entertained eyes. You must experience this for yourself.
I have conceived a new scaling system for Season 19. It starts with 10 and ends with
