Review: Kirby Buckets “It’s a Kirbyful Life”

Spoilers Below

Kirby would rather go to his friends’ party then stay at home and do a bunch of art work, so he wishes that he never had his given talents. Kirby clearly falls asleep and wakes up in a world where he is in the orchestra at school, is best friends with Dawn, and his dad has a horrifying mustache. Worst yet? He can’t draw.

Also in this world, Dawn is a good person and Belinda is a goth chick. We also have Fish dressed up like a farmer and Eli spouting off about something that’s pure nonsense. Jenkins is running the school, and Kirby’s parents threaten to send their son to Mitchell’s school for troubled kids.

Kirby realizes that the only way he can get back to his real life, is by loving to draw again. As a result, he opts to destroy his sister to help make him feel better, but no matter what he does, Dawn loves Kirby. Fortunately, news of her brother’s boarding causes Dawn to freak out and gain back Kirby’s affinity for drawing. Kirby wakes up, and he’s fine.

Our Take

Kirby Buckets’ best take on a Mr. Scrooge-esque story line more or less works. Dad and Dawn were by far the funniest this go round, with Dad’s mustache making me die every time I see it all the while Dawn acts all nice. I didn’t get the concept of a “B” plot manifesting itself in Kirby’s dream, but if it weren’t for Dawn I don’t know if I would’ve liked this episode at all. I kind of would have liked to have seen more of her “Dawnations” because I thought that was a great idea, but seeing her act all nice was a lot of fun, too. Belinda as a goth chick was also pretty fun, and those two girls just work so well together.

So well, that it saves the show. I mean, Eli and Fish were just aggravating this week, but the overall concept of the episode was well thought out and hit all the right points.
