Short Review: Descendants: Wicked World – “Good Is The New Bad”

Descendants-Wicked-World-15

Wicked World seems to have wrapped up the story it had going. This week’s episode is mostly one song. Apparently, Auradon has an annual singing competition. For some reason, only teams can compete. Audrey has paired up with Lonnie, Evie and Mal are a team, but Ally (daughter of Alice in Wonderland) doesn’t have a teammate. Evie tells her to pair up with Jordan. Ally is reluctant to join forces with a villain.

When the competition begins, Evie and Mal are supposed to be the first entry. However, Audrey pushes her way on stage instead. Not wanting to be pushed aside, Evie and Mal also storm the stage. Figuring that there doesn’t need to be teams, Ally and Jordan also jump up on stage. Together, the six girls sing a song about how good is the new bad.

Well, the song wasn’t completely awful. There just wasn’t anything else to the episode. Throwing Ally into the mix was an interesting choice. I would have thought that maybe they would pick a singing princess, like maybe Ariel, for the singing competition. Alice sings a little in her movie but not nearly well enough to consider her a singer. Jordan felt like she was only thrown in to make the “bad” girls an even team against the “good” girls. Though, to be honest, I figured she’d sing at some point since Disney darling China Anne McClain voices her.

I’m hoping that this isn’t taking the show back into standalone episodes. The episodes aren’t long enough to handle single stories. They need to have a multi-episode arc to keep it interesting. Either give in and make the episodes longer or keep stringing the episodes together. You can’t have short, uninteresting episodes. No one wants to watch that.
