Review: Harvey Beaks “Barkball”
Spoilers Below
Harvey really wants to get on the Little League Barkball team, but neither he nor the other kids even had a chance to get on the team. Turns out , this Coach Dinkley is a motherfucker, so Harvey challenges him to a game with rights to the field as the prize. Problem is, nobody has played the game before, but Fee and Foo show potential and agree to join the team as coaches.
On the day of the game, “Team Bumblebees” show up versus Coach Dinkley and put on a good show. Harvey sucks and actually injures every one of his teammates leaving just Fee and Foo left. Fee and Foo get ejected, leaving just Harvey to win the game. Harvey ends up injuring Dinkley and is able to secure the victory. The kids get the field, and Harvey changes the rules of the field.
Our Take
Barkball looks like a lot of fun, and I was fascinated to see a game constructed specifically for the purposes of the show. Usually, most cartoons like to use traditional sports like baseball, football, and the like, but the writers of Harvey Beaks show their acumen and talent in creating a sport and history that I wouldn’t mind seeing more of.
The morale of the story is quite simply that sports shouldn’t see any lines in the sand in terms of play ability, and that there could be something that presents itself the reason as to why someone could be a bully (Dinkley). At the end of the day, sports are about fun, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Harvey Beaks wins here.
