BUBBLE CAN Review: Fugget About It “Universal Prostitution and Pizza Fridays”

There is a lot of political fever going around. The U.S is gearing up to elect a brand new President and up here in Canada, we just elected a brand new Prime Minister. So, if you haven’t had enough political races, last night’s Fugget About It may be for you! So how was the episode? Let’s jump into the review!

In “Universal Prostitution and Pizza Fridays” tensions rise between Cheech and Jimmy when Cheech racks up over $6,000 in parking tickets. When Jimmy gets blunt, Cheech becomes depressed but finds meaning for himself when he decides to run for mayor.

This was a pretty good episode. We start off with a great first act where we see Cheech really down in the dumps after Jimmy gives him the harsh truth. The story itself isn’t really anything new, we’ve seen a ton of other shows have a “running for mayor” episode, but lack of story originality is perfectly acceptable as long as the show can throw its own flavor into the mix, and it did. If you’re familiar with the show, just hearing the words “Cheech is running for mayor” gives you everything you need to know about how the episode will be funny. Of course, nobody really takes him seriously. McCool had a lot of great scenes this episode also.

Where this episode sort of fell short was in the beginning. The first act focused heavily on Cheech, and while he is a great character. He’s a character I think does better on the side or in the background. For me, he is the salt and pepper of the show. Really great to add to something, but you don’t want it as the main course. When he announced his candidacy, everything tied back together pretty well. Jimmy came back into the spotlight, and I think the ship straightened itself out for the rest of the episode.

Gina and Theresa had a little subplot in the episode as well; focusing on Theresa taking over Gina’s crime operation at her school. It was sort of forgettable, as far as a subplot goes it ate up the time it needed to, but nothing about it really stood out. They also threw in a Rob Ford joke, which is a little outdated, but it takes a long time to put together an episode, so I’m sure it was more relevant during the early stages of production. It was hilarious, so I don’t blame them for having it in there.

Overall, it was a good episode. I always have a lot of fun with Fugget About It, it’s a really easy watch and you always come away from it with a smile on your face. I didn’t quite enjoy this episode as much as the season premiere, but this wasn’t much of a step-down. If you’re a big fan of Cheech, this should have been a great episode for you because there was a large focus on him. As far as premiere follow-ups go, this wasn’t bad at all.
