BUBBLE CAN Review: Night Sweats “Bucket List”
Night Sweats was a show I was pretty apprehensive about when I first began reviewing it. I wasn’t a big fan of the first episode I watched, but every week has been a bit better than the last. This episode opened up strong with our hosts Bart and Chris, or as they were lovingly referred to like this week: Chunky Conan O’Brien and Asian Jay Leno. So, how was the rest of the episode? Read on to find out!
In “Bucket List” Chris is going to die at the end of the episode, so with Bart, they only have the time in the episode to finish everything on Chris’ bucket list. More shorts from World Doctors, Barrel DeCloon, City in Crisis, and Don’t Feed the Humans.
This has been my favorite episode thus far. The live-action segments of the episode were the best I’ve seen from the show yet. The various bucket list items Bart and Chris are checking off were just great, and the final scene of the episode was the hardest I’ve laughed at the show yet. I try not to review the comedy shows too much because comedy is super subjective, but the ending of this episode made me laugh harder than anything else I’ve reviewed so far this year.
The first animated short “World Doctors” was pretty good. Honestly, I’m not a fan of this particular series. The comedy style just isn’t for me. But this has been my favorite “World Doctors” so far. A great Two and a Half Men joke, plenty of insanity and the Outreach at the end of the short was really well done.
The second short Barrel DeCloon was also good. A crude animation style, but filled with color. We see Barrel assembling a team to take on the Nazi’s and retrieve stolen documents. The best part of the short was seeing the outlandish group get introduced. A lot of creative characters.
City in Crisis is usually one of my favorites because I’m a big Batman fan, and it’s an obvious homage to the Dark Knight. This week it fell a little flat for me. There is a great monologue in it, but the rest didn’t feel right. The writing outside of the monologue felt a little lazy.
Don’t Feed the Humans was sort of a boring watch this week. They introduced a zookeeper named “Horf”. He was a really funny character, but the rest of the short wasn’t too great. There are a lot of characters in this series, and there hasn’t been enough time to really introduce them all well. This series would probably be great if it got a bit more time.
Overall, this was an excellent episode. Night Sweats has really become a solid watch on Friday nights, it’s really no surprise now why Adult Swim gives it so much love. If you haven’t checked out the show yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a great watch if you’re just trying to unwind and watch some stupid humor. This show doesn’t make you think about the comedy very much, and within the context of this show, that is a good thing.
How did you like “Bucket List”? Like it? Not so much? Be sure to let us know!
Night Sweats is on every Friday night at 10:00 PM EST on Adult Swim Canada!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
