Review: SpongeBob SquarePants ‘Sanctuary!’
Spoilers Below:
While out for a walk with Gary, SpongeBob found a stray snail and took him in. Patrick told his friend about several stray snail babies, which SpongeBob also took in. More and more people began dropping off snails until the entire pineapple house was full of them.
The extra work & care turned SpongeBob into some weird, creepy old lady, and the abundance of snails caused a serious allergic reaction for Squirward.
Eventually Bob Barnicle, Snail Rescuer (Bob Barker) came to take the snails to his sanctuary and alleviate the whole issue.
In Case You Missed It:
1) SpongeBob was reading The Big Book of Snail Care.
2) SpongeBob’s heating blanket settings were: heat, fire, volcano, pitchfork, and snail.
3) Instead of taking a shower, SpongeBob just walked into the bathroom and wrapped the shower curtain around himself and used the rug as a wig.
4) “Electric Ronnie” was the best snail name listed.
Although “Sanctuary!” wasn’t as funny as I hoped, it had every other ingredient for a great SpongeBob episode. It was the simplest of plots (SpongeBob takes in some snails, when it became too many, someone came to his rescue), it had that weirdness that other kids cartoons don’t contain (SpongeBob as a weird zombie old lady hunchback), and it was silly and nonsensical at times (when Squidward sneezed on someone’s food, Krabs said, “The customers don’t like it, except for that guy.”)
And on top of all that, Bob Barker had a cameo, even getting in a version of his famous line: “Don’t forget to get your snails spayed or neutered.”
But the two biggest signs that this episode was a success? First, I want to watch it again just to see SpongeBob as a weirdo, and second, I was quoting the installment as soon as it ended.
“No, no, Patrick. No outsidies for you!”

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
