Bubbleblabber vs Carl’s Stone Cold Pick of the NFL Week 5: Broncos vs Raiders (2015)

The Packers’ drubbing of the Niners last week, Carl and I are now at the .500 mark and it looks like we are disagreeing on the pick for this week. That said, this could be one of the more difficult games to pick a winner because the teams are closer than they appear on paper. Personally, I think this could be an upset game. Let’s see what Carl has to say about the situation:

Let’s do a breakdown of both teams and see who comes out the other end shiny like a new penny:

You would think this is an easy pick, and given the records it should be right? Problem is a Peyton Manning offense is ranked near the bottom of the whole league a beleaguered passing game and the running game not having the patented Denver elegance of yesteryear. What we do have is the most terrifying defense in football going up against an offense that is ripe with youth. At the end of the day, that youth could be what quells the Raiders, but if Oakland can sustain a running game and slow down the pace, they could turn this into a battle of field goal kickers and that usually benefits the home team.

The Raiders are slowly but surely building an offense that is potent. Jack Del Rio’s knowledge of the Broncos could prove to be a difference maker on defense, and with Amari Cooper, Derek Carr, and Latavius Murray doing a nice job of finding a rhythm and cohesion that is prevalent in championship teams not named the Patriots.
