Meet Okilly Dokilly: The Ned Flanders Metal Band

Okilly Dokilly 1

As some of you may have picked up on, The Simpsons is my all-time favorite show, and my musical tastes range anywhere from hippie folk to heavy metal. So imagine my delight when I found out there is a Ned Flanders-themed metal band called Okilly Dokilly. (They weren’t even on this poster!)

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, the “Nedal” musicians don’t just have a clever name, but actually dress like Flanders himself: green sweaters, pink dress shirts, round glasses, and, of course, mustaches for all.

In addition, according to the band’s Facebook page, “Most of our songs are direct Ned quotes.” The group’s Bandcamp profile contains demos for “They Warned Me,” “Nothing At All,” “Press Destruct Button,” and “All That is Left.” At least a couple of those should be obvious references for Simpsons fans, with the bridge of the last song made up entirely of left-handed puns.

As for the name, lead singer Head Ned explained the origins to Rip It Up. “Myself and our drummer (Bled Ned) were in line at a grocery store, entertaining ourselves by coming up with really cutesy names for really hardcore, brutal bands,” he said. “The name Okilly Dokilly came up and was very funny to us. We ran with it. I contacted a few friends (Red Ned, Thread Ned, and Stead Ned), and here we are.”

“Most of us have played in other bands around our hometown,” Head Ned continued. “This is definitely the heaviest sounding project any of us Neds have done.”

Their very first live show is slated for Saturday, September 5th at The Trunk Space in Phoenix. In the meantime, the band will be enjoying their favorite pastimes of “watching The Simpsons,” “plenty of Futurama,” and “politely asking for the return of our power tools.”
