Review: Stone Quackers “Hemispheres”

Spoilers Below

Barry gets ‘beaked’ at his job where his coworkers put a bunch of marinara sauce in his squad car. Dottie wants to help so she introduces Barry to Bug who recommends the crew talk to Whit and Clay, but thanks to Bark the Officer leaves without any sort of recourse. Barry heads back to the station and gets jumped by his coworkers again, and this time they threaten to destroy him at the ‘Pie Police Dinner’. With nowhere else to turn to, Barry recruits Barf, Whit, and Clay to put a stink bomb underneath the building in which the dinner is being held. We find out that the other cops were just testing Barry so he wants to grab it but we find out that the bomb is NOT a stink bomb it’s a bomb bomb and it just went off. Fortunately, no real damage is done, and everyone’s ok…except Dottie of whom might be psychotic.

Our Take

It feels really good to have this show back, and we basically picked up right where we left off for Stone Quakers. This week, the producers stuck with a single story as opposed to the shorts that we sometimes see and I think it’s better this way. I really wanted Barry to kick the shit out of his fellow co-workers because we know just how dark he can get, and that’s a build-up that takes time to really fine-tune. You almost get to the edge of your seat pining for Barry to wreck his co-workers, but alas he’s a big softie just like John C. Reilly. Also, call this a guess, but I think Bug is going to be a bigger factor in future episodes.

The art direction during the run scenes were my favorite parts of the episode though it could just as easily be when Whit and Clay are doing play-by-play on Barf’s slow thought-processing. Stone Quackers is back, and it feels good.
