Spoilers Below

Kirby’s mom is trying to convince her son to stop lying, but Kirby has already perfected a system that is already in use all over school and it’s working. Kirby was even able to get out of a week’s worth of school work by simply lying his ass off. To get out of shit with his mom, Kirby figures to make up a whale of a lie featuring him starting a club with Fish and Eli. Unfortunately, everything sounds like it’s going to crash because Kirby’s mom decides to get a job as a sub at Kirby and Dawn’s school.

Dawn wants nothing to do with her mom at work, and Kirby wants to make sure mom doesn’t meet any of the teachers that he has setup lies with. First day in, and Mrs. Buckets or ‘Mrs. Bu’ as she is known as to Dawn and her classmates, seems to be doing just fine. Kirby’s able to find creative ways to make sure his lies clear with his teachers, but when Mrs. Buckets takes off with the janitor’s keys, he begins to wonder…

So, there’s a Past-a-looza coming up where Principal Mitchell opens up a time capsule and a 90s themed dance group that Dawn isn’t invited to are scheduled to be a part of the festivities. We find out, that Mrs. Buckets put some eggs in the time capsule 20 years ago back when she was a student at this very same school, and if she doesn’t open it, it will explode all over Mitchell. On the day of the event, the Buckets make an attempt to grab the capsule before anyone gets hit, but instead the two get the brunt of it. Mitchell buts mom and son on cleaning duty, and then Kirby decides to come clean about his lies to his mom.

Our Take

I feel old. Tough getting the brunt of the reality club that is that the 90s were 20 years ago. I wasn’t in high school 20 years ago like Kirby’s mom, but I listened to a LOT of Pantera in those days. Not sure why that brand of music played no part in the soundtrack of Mitchell’s event, but I’ll deal.

In any event, I really enjoyed tonight’s episode of Kirby Buckets. Mom Buckets is a character that isn’t used a lot and was long overdue for an episode with just her and I think Suzi Barrett did just fine. She’s funny, has fast quips, and is a more than suitable lackey for Kirby’s doings. While Dawn really didn’t factor into anything important this week, Kirby had to do all the heavy lifting on his end. The jokes were there, and I particularly enjoyed the direction taken whilst watching him and his mom make moves to try and save Mitchell. Oh yea, and Mitchell is hysterical and it doesn’t matter what decade he’s in apparently. Every time the producers lay on thick the slow-mo hair-wind routine I can’t help but marvel in disgust.
