Review: Major Lazer ‘K-POP!!’

Spoilers Below

Dr. Acid tells General Rubbish about his new pop singer robot, K-Pop, that is able to sing lyrics featuring encoded data that causes teenagers to want to kill Major Lazer. So, what’s the fastest way to spread this message? A FREE CONCERT! Yep, and before you know it, all of the kids go after our titular hero. Fortunately, K-Pop comes to his senses and decides he wants people to be nice to Major Lazer, so he writes a new song that does just that. You would think they have failed, but this becomes the opportune time for Rubbish and Acid to debut their newest creation…Evil Lazer. Evil Lazer is a robotic clone of Major Lazer that has one mission…to kill Major Lazer, Evil sets off, starts beating the brains of Major Lazer, but Blkmrkt and Penny are able to jump in and subdue Evil Lazer before he does any real damage. K-Pop is destroyed, but he goes out a good guy.

Our Take

Tonight’s episode felt like something out of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 where new fighters are constantly introduced to the fray and all anarchy shakes loose. K-Pop was unreal, and I hope we find a way to bring him back because I’d watch a whole show with just him. His Michael Jackson-inspired riffs played well when he took on Evil Lazer in one of the most epic battles we’ve seen all year. Shit, Evil Lazer nearly killed Major, like almost one-sided. At the end of it, I couldn’t help but notice that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Major Lazer is daring the other brand-new shows of 2015 to stop it, but I don’t see it.

That said, the only things I were miffed about was the fact that yes, Evil Lazer and K-Pop were destroyed. Evil Lazer actually seemed like the first legit villain in the whole show because Whitewall and Rubbish don’t seem eager to get into a fight. This could dissuade some viewers, and I think at the very least Rubbish needs to throw down against Major Lazer just to see what it’s like. Other than that, this show is le-fucking-git.
