Review: Tokyo Ghoul √A “City In Waiting”
I’ve come to the conclusion that the hype train makes two stops. There’s Get Fucked-ville, where Tokyo Ghoul √A has been for over half of the season. Almost every episode has been stuck in overly convoluted exposition that doesn’t make much sense. I would love to be able to get it, but I don’t. However, I think the hype train crashed somewhere near Get-It Nation, because “City in Waiting” was actually enjoyable.
Here’s how it goes. This is the beginning of the end of the season for Tokyo Ghoul √A, and everyone is making their moves. The police starts their plan to go after the Owl after writing their last rites to their loved ones, and make their stand in front Anteiku. When the police come knocking, Koma and Irimi lead their old gangs of Ghouls, the Hell Monkeys and Black Dogs while the Owl makes his way to attack the task force. Hell, even Kaneki and Touka are making their way to the battlefield.
The sheer scope of this fight is going to be HUGE, hopefully. The fact that the battle’s set up is starting now, just means that the next three episodes are going to be non-stop insanity. Again, this is all on a hope and a prayer, because we all know that predicting anime works as well as predicting the lottery, or when the Cubs will win the World Series.
I have a good feeling on this final few episodes. Tokyo Ghoul √A has always been at it’s best when there is less of a focus on the overly convoluted story. I’m excited to see Kaneki finally cut loose and slay some people, and I want to see Juuzou finally go ham on every Ghoul he comes across. The lead in to the final three episodes fill me with a lot of hope. Let’s just hope that I’m not led astray like I have been so far this season.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
