Review: Regular Show “1,000th Chopper Ride Party”

Spoilers Below

There seems to be a few constants when it comes to Regular Show. First, there’s the show’s penchant for pulling killer plot ideas out of nowhere. Second, no matter how good their intentions are, Mordecai and Rigby will always get into trouble. Third, Mordecai will always have some sort of girl trouble. When the plot veers towards number three, that’s where things get a little screwed up.

I’ve been covering Regular Show for the better part of the last year. And the only times where the plot tanks is when the focus is on the never-ending girl troubles that Mordecai has. Whether it’s not getting Margaret, or Margaret going to college, or him not getting over Margaret to move things along with CJ, or the weird feelings that everyone gets when CJ and Margaret are in the same vicinity with each other, it just makes the episode falter, and “1,000th Chopper Ride Party” doesn’t disappoint in that single regard.

I get it. I really do. I get that Mordecai is the most inept person when it comes to relationships. We don’t need to have this bashing us in the head everytime something gets thrown into the mix. For once, I just want to see Mordecai swim the current, and actually play it cool. This time, however, CJ is the shit storm that crashes things, and makes things more awkward for everyone involved. It’s another jealousy story, and it’s played out. Thank god that this awkward plot moving forward, with Margaret finally putting a death knell in the feelings department between the two.

Hopefully, “1,oooth Chopper Ride Party” puts the Mordecai / Margaret story to rest for a bit. It kind of cheapens CJ as a character, because it’s like Mordecai is just waiting for Margaret to come around. It’s like me, sitting here, waiting for these sub-par Mordecai / Margaret stories to pass. I didn’t like it before, and I didn’t like it now. Is it next Thursday, yet?
