RIP ‘Fritz the Cat’ animator/writer

ninelives

Fritz the Cat is one of those franchises that had it not happened you would not have shows like South Park, Family Guy, and anything on Adult Swim being televised today. Robert Taylor was a big part of that and he passed away on December 11th at the age of 70 after complications from lung disease.

Robert was the lead animator on Ralph Bakshi’s Fritz the Cat and had directed, co-wrote, and animated the legendary film’s sequel The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat. Arguably, the sequel wasn’t as great as the original, however it’s an important part in animation history because it’s movies like that paved the way not only for the TV shows, but to anyone that has done the short-film deal shopping it from festival to festival and lived to tell about it.

He will be missed.
