Ten Stand-Up Comedians that should get their own animated series

Eddie Murphy, Daniel Tosh, The Lucas Bros, and most recently Bill Burr have all had success in starring in animated comedies, but maybe a few more well-known stand-ups so should get a shot? Find out the ten that we feel is most deserving:

10) Denis Leary

leary

Denis is not only an acclaimed stand-up and philanthropist, but he’s also an astute TV show producer having had his name attached to the likes of Maron and Rescue Me, and will next be seen in the FX dramedy called Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. But, Bill is just one of many Boston area comedians that deserve a shot at developing his own series. Having already voiced Diego for a number of years in Ice Age, Denis Leary starring in an R-rated animated comedy would be as good as anything that Bill Burr will develop.

  9) Sarah Silverman

sarah

Sarah has done COUNTLESS animated television shows having worked on The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and a slew of others. She’s also a fantastic stand-up and her live-acting career is really taking off. But anyone that has heard Sarah voice ‘Vanellope von Schweetz’ on Wreck It Ralph knows this chick’s got talent and with her extensive background in comedy writing I think an animated series should be on tap for Sarah sooner rather than later.

8) Louis CK

Louis flirted with doing an animated comedy series before the Louie series on FX took off, but I’m pretty sure if he pitched to FX right now a new animated series, it would get picked up in 14 seconds and would begin production at Floyd County Productions faster than the speed of light. Louis has for a long time developed comedic material, and I think an animated series can accentuate these strengths.

7) Doug Stanhope

This guy is currently working with Johnny Depp on some programming, but really Doug should be the star of his own animated series. I can’t help but think if BoJack Horseman’s titular character was voiced by Stanhope because the dialogue would’ve been funnier because Doug’s raspy voice and downtrodden personality would’ve been a perfect fit here. So how about some of you guys call this dude up and ask him to star in your show…you won’t regret it.

6) Marc Maron

maron

I don’t think Marc doing anything autobiographical in the animated arena is a good move here. He already has the excellent Maron series, but similar to Doug he could certainly make a play for a character down on his luck or looking for something else. I couldn’t picture Marc starring as say a Sterling Archer or a Peter Griffin, but he has enough comedic chops to carry an animated series without question. Perhaps something on IFC, FXX. or even Adult Swim.

5) Russell Peters

Arguably the world’s biggest stand-up comedian, an animated series starring a guy that has as established as a career that there is to have in India, China, and elsewhere, certainly has its perks. Russell is hysterical and I think his vast experiences in travelling the world would do well to lend itself to a cartoon, so why the fuck wouldn’t we want a series starring him? I think he could pull off something a bit more family-friendly such as on Comedy Central or prime-time FOX.

4) Amy Schumer

amy

Earlier this year, Amy actually did a skit on Inside Amy Schumer on the merchandising dollar one could make from doing animated comedy. And yes, if Amy were to start producing some cool stuff, I think I would buy whatever she’s selling. Her style of stand-up certainly lends itself to something on Comedy Central, but on what network could a woman-centric animated series thrive? Would someone like TVLand have the balls? I’m not sure, but someone should do something with her.

3) Anthony Jeselnik

jeselnik

The Jeselnik Offensive was a funny show and I don’t know why it was cancelled. In any case, whatever animated series that Anthony wants to attach himself to would just simply be too good to be true. The brand of comedy that would come from this show could hit jugulars just as hard as South Park, if not worse. Religion, Gender, it doesn’t matter what the topic, Anthony has opinions on it. Comedy Central, FXX, and Adult Swim seems like the right networks to air such a show, so we should get this shit in!

2) Sinbad

Sinbad-2

Sinbad guest stars as himself on American Dad every once in a while, and usually it’s some of the best American Dad you are going to see anywhere. Not only that, but Sinbad could certainly produce animated television geared towards an older crowd that could appreciate some of the jokes that Sinbad has been writing as of late. FOX, TBS, and even BET would all be great locales for a Sinbad-produced series, so let’s see it happen!

1) Gilbert Gottfried

gilbert

Are you guys really surprised on who number one should be? You shouldn’t. Gilbert has the most recognizable voice in stand-up comedy, and he produces shows that are of gut-busting quality. Put those two together, and you have a hit series. The show would HAVE to be on an Adult Swim or Comedy Central, because anyone that has heard Gilbert’s jokes regarding Michael Jackson, or anybody that he’s roasting, is just pure genius.
