Review: Squidbillies ”Sheriff-in-Law”

Spoilers Below

After closing on the best opening theme song of the season, Sheriff and Danny head to the convenience store to respond to a call. Turns out, Early hasn’t been there in a while, and the manager is worried. It’s here that Danny recommends Sheriff to go check on his mother. Instead, he heads to the Cuylers to try and find Early only to find out Mr. Squid married Sheriff’s mother and he’s now living with her. Worse yet, Sheriff’s mother is on life support and Early’s already sifting through her cash and jewels. As a result, the Sheriff takes Early to court to try and win back his inheritance but he loses and Early looks like he’s getting away clean. To get back at Early, Sheriff decides to propose to Granny, but she doesn”t really have anything of much worth. That said, Granny turns Sheriff down anyway which causes the old man to try and accept the fact that Early is his dad and he might as well get used to it. We come to find out that Early is cheating on his new wife and milking her worth dry which just pisses Sheriff right the fuck off. The next day, Early wakes up to find his wife gone and a John Deere letter. We come to find out that Danny has the nearly-dead woman and he had his own plans.

Our Take

A definite high-point for the show this season, Squidbillies delivers a pretty hysterical episode. To be quite honest, this one felt almost like a weird soap opera featuring quarrels over money, tricks to gain leverage, and a plot twist of an ending that I certainly didn’t see coming. The best part was probably the court scene featuring Early all botoxed up as he slathers his tongue up and down medical equipment that is housing his wife all the while staring at Sheriff. Definitely one of those moments I wish I could unsee, because I’ll be seeing that tongue of Early’s in my nightmares.
