Review: Mr. Pickles ‘Grandpa’s Night Out’

Spoilers Below

Grandpa wakes up probably hung over, but we find out that he wasn’t drugged by Mr. Pickles. Instead, the old man and his dog had a night on the town when all of the sudden they ran into Linda whom is sporting a new wedding ring. Yep! Grandpa and Linda are hitched!! Thankfully this is America aka the land of magical divorce, so Grandpa heads to Ron Bolton, a divorce attorney, to begin the proceedings to sever this relationship.

The marriage isn’t all bad, Tommy meets Linda Jr. whom shows him all the joys of being abnormal. Unfortunately, Tommy wants to be a wrestler just like famed performer ‘The Crusher’. The Crusher is a huge and gross looking motherfucker that is the biggest fake star in town, but when Mr. Goodman calls out the sport for its fallacy, he’s gotta get into the ring and fight The Crusher. All chaos ensues in the ring with an all out royal rumble from hell that causes Linda to divorce Grandpa and Tommy to jump into the ring and kick ass. Ron Bolton gets sent to jail for a framed murder, courtesy of Mr. Pickles.

Our Take

By far the best episode of the season thus far, as Mr. Pickles continues to get better as the season moves along. I’m beginning to get worried about the lack of effort Adult Swim has been putting into promoting this show, make that two for Black Dynamite, but hopefully I’m wrong and more episodes are on the way. Linda may be the grossest character on the show, and seeing her jump all over the place fucking anything that she could find was just foul. But, the best part was the exciting climax, that almost built up to something out of The Fugitive with the sniper-plot near the end. Also, the show seems to run smoother when B-plots are almost non-existent, and that was certainly the case here as although it looked we were getting into some serious business with Mr. Goodman, we were given enough time to fully enjoy Tommy and Linda Jr’s journey through freaksville which helped setup all the gags near the end.
