Review: Wander Over Yonder ”The Date; The Buddies”
Spoilers Below
”The Date;
Wander feels bad that Hater is alone on date night so Wander convinces Sylvia to go out with the evil emperor so that the planet can be saved. Hater ends up having a pretty good time during the meal and orders a BUNCH of food, but Sylvia doesn’t think much of this asshole and her face proves it. When the bill shows up, Sylvia has to pay, but Hater isn’t ready to call this an evening yet. Hater takes Sylvia to the carnival, but afterwards when he shoots for the kiss, he whiffs. Sylvia feels bad so she ends up kissing him anyway leading to Hater proposing marriage. If she doesn’t say yes, all of the planets are destroyed, so she goes through with it. Thankfully, Wander shows up in a ladies’ outfit and tries to court Hater to go with her instead! As a result, Hater decides to cancel the wedding with Wander and Sylvia continuing to bubble around.
We got more of a Valentine’s Day-inspired episode versus anything spooky, but what we DID get was a rather episode. Totally classic sitcom/rom-com tropes with friends donning disguises or hiding in the corner while their friends try to impress a girl, but Wander takes that and flips it upside down. That’s because THIS date becomes a pseudo-success which ends in marriage and leads us to a pretty hysterical conclusion. Haters gonna hate…even when in love.
The Buddies”
Hater’s getting ready to send Wander to another dimension, but Sylvia shows up and beats the shit out of all of Hater’s minions. The machine crashes which causes Hater and Wander to head through the aforementioned portal while Sylvia gets surrounded by the Watch Dogs. As it turns out, Wander is friends with the inhabitants of this world which is reserved for Hater’s worst enemies! In an effort to stay alive, Hater pretends like he’s friends with Wander so that the other guys don’t destroy him. The song and dance goes on for quite a while and from the looks of it, Hater actually starts warming up to the idea of having a real friend. All of the sudden, a monster shows up and tries to suck Wander into a hole, but the friends team up and save him from disaster. The portal opens up, but only Wander gets saved leaving Hater to get the shit kicked out of him. And yes, although he’s an asshole, Wander saves Hater and returns everyone back to the real world.
It isn’t often where we get to see episodes of Wander Over Yonder and get a BUNCH of new characters. This episode gives us just that with all of Wander’s pals all of whom looked goofier than the rest. I do wish we got an idea of exactly how long Wander and Hater were on that desolate planet, but hilarious nonetheless.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
