Watch This 8-Bit Tribute to Hayao Miyazaki
With Hayao Miyazaki’s possible retirement and the possible end of Studio Ghibli, the tributes and accolades have been pouring in recently. The Simpsons honored him with a couch gag and a scene last season, the Academy Awards plan to give him a lifetime achievement Oscar, and fans and fellow animators have been rolling out elaborate nods to the famous artist.
On the other end of the complexity scale, there’s this: an 8-bit Vimeo tribute to the legend courtesy of whoispablo. It contains a multitude of characters and references from Miyazaki’s works, and everything is packed into a short, 45-second clip.
It’s undoubtedly a must-see for anyone remotely familiar with the master’s work.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
