Review: Gravity Falls “Sock Opera”

Spoilers Below

It has been awhile since the last episode of Gravity Falls. While this episode doesn’t refer to the previous episode, it does refer to the one before it. Hopefully you have been keeping track of things.

We join Dipper and Mabel at the library as they try to crack the password to the computer they retrieved from the bunker in “Into The Bunker.” The password is 8 letters long and they have no clue what it could be. Just as Mabel agrees to help Dipper, she overhears a puppet show taking place in the children’s section of the library. Immediately, she falls in love with Gabe, the puppeteer. In order to impress him, she claims to love puppets and tells him that she is putting on a puppet rock opera in one week.

The week goes by with Dipper trying to guess the password while Mabel gets everyone she knows to help her with her puppet show. In Dipper’s sleep deprived state, Bill the triangle comes to visit. Bill promises to give Dipper the computer’s password but only if Dipper gives him a puppet. Reluctantly, Dipper agrees. Unfortunately for him, the puppet that Bill chooses is Dipper himself. Now Bill just needs to destroy Dipper’s journal.

Bill takes Dipper’s body to the puppet show, where Mabel is using the journal as a prop in her play. Ghost Dipper uses a puppet to contact Mabel to tell her what is going on. Mabel sacrifices her would-be relationship with Gabe to save Dipper and banish Bill once more.

While this episode didn’t progress the overall plot significantly, it was really funny. And we did learn that Bill has plans in motion. We don’t know what those plans are though. I am definitely curious to see what he has up his triangular sleeves. I’m also super happy that Mabel has realized all of the things that Dipper has give up for her. Maybe now the twins will be a real team to reckon with.
