Uncle Samta Wants You(r Money)!

If you feel the same way I do around the holiday season, you want to strangle every fellow shopper you can’t get enough of Christmas movies. From classics like It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story to films like Jingle All the Way, Elf and Die Hard, I love almost every one. So obviously I’m all in favor of another, especially if it’s an animated comedy. Enter Uncle Samta, a potential future classic that is currently flying on a wing, a prayer, and a Kickstarter campaign.

If your curiosity is piqued, give the video below a watch. And by the way, if you happen to be ADD-prone like myself, don’t be startled by the five-plus-minute runtime: the actual trailer is quite short, but there’s an animated intro and narrative in addition to interviews with the film’s creators, Sean Springer and AJ Viviani.

Uncle Samta is referred to as a satire, and features a lot of jokes about the government, so at first it seems like it could be an adult or teen movie. The video’s message is also directed at adults, but that’s probably because they can vote and have actual money. However, there are mentions of kids throughout the clip, so this appears to be a movie that anyone with a sense of humor can enjoy. Plus, the actual plot revolves around a 13-year-old orphan boy who loses faith in honesty and trust after Santa stops delivering gifts to kids. Sounds like fun for the whole family, right?

Give the clip a shot, and if you’re feeling jolly, throw some money at this worthy cause. The Kickstarter has ended, but you can and should still donate on their website, because I don’t think this is the last we’ll hear about Uncle Samta. You might just help a movie get made. Trust me, one day while you’re tanked on egg nog around the holidays, you’ll be glad to have something funny to watch.
