Bubble UK: Future Duck Runs Away With Awards at Austin Web Fest

The last weekend in June bought some exciting news for friends of the site, animation duo Cope and Dalton. Find out the haps after  the break.

No, Paul Cope and Henry Dalton were not screening their toons at Glastonbury (that would be something wouldn’t it?) neither were they playing a doubles match at Wimbledon, and, they definitely weren’t winning any matches for England at the World Cup. They were, however, attending the first Austin Web Fest as nominees and they only went and won some stuff didn’t they? Great news for the makers of Future Duck I’m sure you’ll agree!

The Austin Web Fest is an event that encourages  web based ventures by providing “a cultural alternative to the commercial film experience” which aims to ” nurture and promote the art of filmmaking itself“. It does this by allowing international online film makers, actors, writers, and animators to compete with each other “in a friendly atmosphere, while showcasing their series.” We at Bubble Blabber think this kind of venture is a great idea, we need more organizations which recognise the efforts of online creators, this is a growing industry, one often overlooked or misjudged by  old school film-makers and artists. As internet ‘users we can be accused of taking content we enjoy for granted, 99% of the time we are watching our favourite series for free. Somewhere along the line, some appreciation has to be given to the creators that work so hard to bring us quality content. This is where events such as Austin Web Fest come into play.

British animators, Cope and Dalton were nominated this weekend for two awards, Best Sound for a webseries and the Audience Choice award. Both nominations were for their brilliantly irreverent show, Future Duck and in both categories they were victorious. Now seems like a good as time as any to reacquaint yourself with the show, sorry, the award winning show, by checking out the playlist below. Luckily, we have plenty of information on Cope and Dalton and you can check out the behind the scenes workings of Future Duck in this interview from last year.

The full list of winners from this years Austin Web Fest can be found on FaceBook but it’s especially exciting when creators we have supported come away with not one, but two trophies! Great stuff Paul and Henry, the awards were well deserved!
