Review: The Boondocks “The Good Times”
Granddad is broke, and has to leave Woodcrest. Or does he?
Overview (Spoilers Below)
See that man on the right? That is a man with nothing left to lose. Robert decides it’s time to get out of Woodcrest, because nothing worked out. After a laundry list of reasons, Huey realizes something isn’t right, because Granddad never takes responsibility or learns a lesson. He confesses he is out over two million dollars, and is having a breakdown. We are now taken to Woodcrest’s Good Times, which is Robert still blubbering about his debt. Robert goes into extreme rationing mode, giving Riley a cap full of orange juice.
He then gets a visit from Ruckus and a press brigade. We get a Mr. Burns, Rush Limbaugh, and a Fox News reference, making a great parody of them all. He rides the Republican ticket hard due to his anti-black man stances. Granddad drags him inside, just to get more jabs, so Ruckus gets thrown out. He then gets a visit from Ed Wuncler Jr., who is there to do some “asset re-management,” and he gets the amount down to around $52,000. Wuncler’s assistant warns him that nothing will be alright, and they REALLY need to fake their deaths.
Sunday morning, Wuncler comes around again for his money, but has about $40. Wuncler then decides he wants to rent out the extra rooms in the house, and the assistant reminds him about faking his death. The freeloaders move in, and Robert is about to get dragged into a nigga moment. After a rather terrible talk with the kids, Robert gets a job with Uncle Ruckus at the car wash, for a day, because his hours got cut. Oh great, we got animated Sean Hannity now with Ruckus riling feathers about the black man. He apparently wants to bring back slave labor. Back at the one house hood, Robert has a moment of infinite wisdom, where he opens the Gangstalicious, Lil Wayne, and the Kardashian cards, but with $1500 in fees. Wuncler Jr. ropes him into a loan shark situation with a loan to pay off the debt.
It’s moving day at the Freeman garage, but it’s interrupted by Wuncler Jr. He brought Uncle Ruckus and some white folk with him, just to give him a slavery contract. Robert jumps at it, and Huey tries to talk him out of it. Robert doesn’t have a lot of time left, so he signs it anyway. It turns out that it was a bet between Wuncler Jr and his assistant that Wuncler would be able to get Robert to sign himself into slavery.
This is the episode that should have been the premiere. Last week’s episode referenced what happened in this episode in the first 10 seconds, but no one had any idea what was going on. As for the episode, it was hilarious. Aaron McGruder leaving open the floodgates to make jokes that some people could take as too far. But you know what? Fuck it! It’s an Adult Swim show, and it should be offensive. I’m not talking a “terrible website” offensive, but I mean offensive to the point where it’s obviously satire. It’s the final season, so bring the damn thunder. So far, good job.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
