Reddit AMA Recap: Phil Henrie talks ”Rick and Morty” and his new project

Recently, radio legend Phil Hendrie stopped by Reddit to take part in an AMA and although much was about his stellar career behind the broadcast mic, he did drop a few tidbits on his role as ”Gene Vagina” on Rick and Morty. So how did Phil become part of Adult Swim’s best new show?

I was called by the producers of the show and they wanted me to come in and read for a couple of characters. They were producing the pilot back in the summer of 2011, if I’m not mistaken. And so I was happy to go in and read for them.

Furthermore, Phil talks about working with show creator Justin Roiland and talked highly of his work ethic:

No, Justin’s a hard-workin son of a bitch. Constantly working, as a matter of fact. A really good professional friend. He’s been a great resource for us as we develop our animation idea. You know, Justin’s the guy who really got that project moving.

See that? Phil just dropped hints on his own animated series that he is working on! AND he’s got a lot more to say about it:

We’ve developed an animation project that we’re going to start pitching very soon. And I will tell you that we have some terrific people that are guiding us along the way. We’ve got a great agent and a great management team, and I really hope that I’ll be able to give you guys a look at this soon.

So how about them apples? Phil Hendrie is working on his own series AND he has used Justin Roiland as a soundboard for idea? Sounds like a winning combination to me. Hopefully more news surfaces about the series soon.
