English Dub Review: Space Dandy “Even Vacuum Cleaners Fall in Love, Baby”
So, what happens when QT leaves and finds a lady-bot friend? Find out after the jump!
Spoilers!
This is a 23-day story of how QT learns to drink a cup of coffee. Dandy and QT are in a coffee-shop, where QT meets a robot coffee dispenser. He loses his robot logic, and falls in love with her. Checking in with the Golgol, Dr. Gel is talking to Admiral Perry about the war with the Jaicro Empire about the Halcaider Experiment. Back at the shop, QT is kind of stalking the robot. He accidentally sets off the automatic door, and the coffee maker sees him creeping on her. On Day five, he ends up back at the shop, where the coffee maker realizes that he isn’t really a vacuum, but a high end robot.
Turns out her name is actually Maker. On day eight, QT is still making small talk with Maker. Maker hands him a cup of coffee, with a bunch of hearts in the froth. Dandy and Meow are on the ship, where they realize they’re out of gas. Day nine, Maker spills a cup of coffee, and day 11 is where QT sneaks into the shop to get her out for a bit. So, they get out, and we get a auto-tuned montage of QT walking around town with Maker. Poor QT, he looks so nervous.
Bee is about to fire the experimental project, as we cut back to the shop. Maker and Register were taken to Dream Island, where appliances go to die. It was said she started showing emotions, so the appliances that show emotion are on the “appliance hunt.” QT starts to look for Maker on day 14, on day 15, he follows the trash collection to the dump known as Dream Island. On day 22, he is still on the hunt, where he gets help from a settler robot named Toaster. QT makes it to a robo-rave, with Register on the turntables. He finds maker on the side of the stage, and runs to her. It turns out that Toaster got this dance together to start a revolution.
On Gel’s ship, Bee tell’s Gel that the experiment achieved the Pyonium reaction, as Gel spills his drink. Toaster gets everyone into a fervor, and gets into his doomsday weapon to exterminate the living people. On the ship, Gel tries to fake the short on Bee, but he sees through it. Maker pours it hard on QT that she’s actually in love with Register, not QT. QT races off to the weapon, where he tries to stop him, but he is almost destroyed in the process. The Golgol experiment backfires, and causes QT to grow to the size of the weapon. Qt gets his face glass cracked while trying to stop it again, but he goes on. He pushes the appliances back to the point where he defeats it. We cut back to QT on the ship, where he tries the coffee, but ends up shorting himself out.
I should also point out that the preview for the next episode was sketches and animated storyboards for season two. And if it was like the latter half of season one, this is going to be insane.
As for the episode, where the hell did the writers come up with such a badass story for QT? I figured, that if anything, it was going to be QT just derping around on the ship. The writers definitely kept it fresh, and kept Dandy and Meow on the ship waiting for QT. This episode expanded QT so much, especially to go against his programming. Generally, when robots are written to go against it, they end up like the giant appliance robot. But this, he acts as a paragon character. QT in love is a funny thing. He acts like a 13 year old high school kid asking out the hot popular chick.
The end fight scene reminds me of the first fight from Evangelion. QT, after getting his face cracked, went completely “01” on Toaster and his giant weapon. Also, this fight was animated so perfectly. Everything from when the weapon came online, to the attack at the wall, to the duel with the weapon and QT, it looked beautiful. To put it plainly, I was stunned. This episode easily made QT one of my favorite characters, only because he wasn’t just a sidekick robot. He had things to fight for; to think about. Like I said about the season two teaser, if season two is as good as this, Space Dandy could be one of the best shows on Adult Swim.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
