Review: Regular Show “Rigby in the Sky with Burritos”

Does Rigby’s attempt to conquer the burrito list succeed? Find out after the Jump!

Burritos!

Mordecai and Rigby are using the mail as shurikens as they’re playing Samurai, or Ninja, they don’t even know. Rigby opens a letter, saying the two are invited to their high school reunion. They go on a nostalgia trip through his list in the yearbook, basically saying he was a rebel, and the complete opposite of his brother. After Rigby goes through the list, he freaks out because he hasn’t done a thing. Mordecai and Rigby settle for skydiving while eating a burrito. They make it to Jumping Jim’s Skydiving Academy, and they get fast tracked to the fans. Rigby gets a burrito, but Jim doesn’t want it on the fans. Rigby throws it in the fan, and it explodes all over Jim and Rigby.

They get thrown out, but Muscle Man comes to the rescue, kind of. They meet Johnny Skydiver, and he agrees to take them up in his flying pile of crap. Of course, Rigby does it for pride. Johnny gives him some advice, but forgets to actually pilot the plane. Rigby manages to eat the burrito and take a picture, with flare. However, the main chute fails, and the reserve has a rip. Rigby sacrifices the burrito to save himself, in a move that I wouldn’t even make. He throws the tortilla into the hole so the parachute will actually work. That saves him, but barely. He lands, in the middle of a bunch of old people. It turns out to be Pop’s class reunion, and the invitations were for him instead of Rigby.

This was easily one of the best episodes of the season. No CJ, no lackluster writing, a food plot device, and the characters get back to what they do best: acting silly, and having outlandish adventures. Mordecai resorting to be the voice of reason, not an overbearing jerk also hearkens when Rigby would go balls in on something. Mordecai goes along with Rigby’s reaction to a reunion was the exact opposite of what I would have had. Back on track, this was a very Mordecai and Rigby-centric episode, with very little input from everyone else. Most of the episodes have been convoluted because a lot of the characters made unnecessary appearances.

There is one recent trend with Rigby I’ve been digging, and this is something the show has taken from the comics. Rigby seems a little more unhinged, quick to act, and has a quick temper. He’s got Mordecai as his slightly more logically thinking counterpart. This is the one thing that they should have taken away from that mess. Hopefully, going forward, we get less fluff concerning CJ, and more food. Everyone loves more food.
