Shorts Review: Trae Tha Truth – “Ep 2: Operation Save The Hood”

Clearly these two gentlemen know what to put their name on to be successful. So why would they put their names on this? Now I’ll admit that I’m ranked second on the street cred scale behind ya boy Achille$, but I feel as if I’m more than qualified to take a crack at this show. The animation is clunky and basic but with an astonishing amount of details on the tattoo work on the characters. Maybe a little of that fine-tuning could be used to bring the broad stroke artwork up a peg or two? The main story line revolves around this group of gentlemen and a giant, purple drink-filled, Master Shake rip off trying to rid the hood of all the fakes and snitches. Bull dozing the hood, firing snitches into space via rocket, and painting liars invisible are all viable options. But going Ghostbusters on the hood and tossing the containment into a lake does the trick! Solid laughs, I must admit. The only real downside to this video is the gratuitous use of the N-Bomb. I’ve lived in some pretty predominantly black neighborhoods before, New Orleans for example, but never have I heard that many N-Bombs dropped in a roughly four minute span. I’m all for free speech and creative license, but tone it down a bit maybe? There’s a fine line between ironic and uncomfortable and sadly I’m not feeling too comfortable watching this video. I grew up watching Yucko the Clown and even that isn’t this racist. That said, I really did enjoy the show overall.
